Overview and Structure of DP11 Visual Arts
DP Visual Arts is a fast paced, highly intense two-year course that constitutes approximately 3 1/2 semesters worth of studio and investigative work.
In Year One, teacher and student roles will shift significantly. During the first semester students will be given more teacher directed units and projects. These units are designed to equip students with a range of content, skills and concepts they will need to be successful in IB Visual Arts. Students will gradually gain more responsibility for their artistic explorations. During the second half of Year One students will increasingly take responsibility for the direction of their work and the avenues they wish to explore. The teacher’s role will shift to that of facilitator and guide.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes you will notice in Year 11 is that your role, as a student, and my role, as a teacher, will shift significantly. More specifically, you will gradually gain more and more responsibility for determining the parameters of your own artistic exploration.
During the first semester you will be given teacher assigned projects that start off relatively structured and gradually become less structured. These projects are designed to equip you with the range of skills you will need to be successful in the DP Visual Arts course. During the second half of Year 11 you will begin to take more and more responsibility for the direction of your work and the avenues you wish to explore. As you become more of the expert, my role will be to guide you, offer advice, help with technical concerns… |
In Year 12 you will continue exploring personal concentrations through your art practice.

“This is just the beginning”
Don’t ever begin to believe
that when you get to a certain point,
you’re there.
Don’t ever put a limit to what
you want to be, because when
you get to that place, you’re
nowhere.
Don’t ever set yourself a stopping place,
because maybe that
is just the beginning
